Better late than never …
I had honestly forgot about this blog until recently. There is a been a rash of real-life events that have narrowed my vision, but I did not stop writing through it all—just forgot about the blog and the website.
I never did update how I did for my 2025 targets. In short, I hit most of them. I didn’t write any short stories to flush out the world, but I did write some longer, in-depth interlude chapters that served the same purpose—so I’m going to call that a win.
I finished drafting MK2 in January as anticipated, spent February through May editing the entire novel, and then wrote two epilogues and coda in June. The editing was slow going with all the real-life stuff but it’s done. It’s not my favorite part and there’s still more to do on that front once the entire series is complete, but for now I am tying it off.
I’ve started writing the date I start drafting in the novel and then the day I ‘tie it off’. I started this novel July 9, 2023, finished drafting January 11, 2026, and edited and tied it off on June 30th, 2026. So, almost 3 years from first words on page to nearly complete and edited novel. About one year slower than I hoped, but there’s nothing for it for the phase of life I’m in. I find every spare moment I can and move forward.
As for the next six months … I’m not sure. The natural next step is to start development of MK3 and wrap up this series to actually start publishing something again. But as I was wrapping up MK2 I had an idea for a fun, standalone novel. I spent a writing session fleshing some of it out. I’m not sure which direction I am going to go just yet.
I’m not going to worry about that just yet. Although, maybe I’ll put a monthly reminder in my phone to update this space for my own posterity.
